Your characters are 5th level at the beginning of the campaign. You have each accomplished great things and have achieved some level of reputation in your particular circles. I am assuming that, for the most part, you do not know each other before the campaign begins, but if you wish to intertwine your background with that of another character, I have no objections.
Characteristics are generated using the point buy system; you have 25 points to spend. After you have assigned your points and added your racial bonuses, don’t forget to add your characteristic increase at level 4.
The available Classes and Races are intended to reflect the flavor of the world of Yamato. If you have a character concept that you really want to play, and which will fit in a fantasy medieval Japanese setting, but which requires a class and/or race that is not listed, make your pitch and I will consider it.
You can select 2 character traits; in addition to the ones from the books, there are campaign Traits available.
You begin the game with 8,000 gp worth of equipment. This can include magic items, subject to DM approval. Eastern arms and armor from Ultimate Combat and Ultimate Equipment are readily available. The only alchemical items available are ones in the Core Rulebook (except for fireworks, which are readily available). You don’t have to spend the whole amount, you can keep the extra money.
