Geography

The Empire of Yamato is composed of 4 main islands:

Hekkai
Honshai
Denroku
Gishen

And a dozen smaller islands.

The islands are mountainous and covered in forests – arable land is at a premium. Rice is the staple crop; taxes, though they may be paid in various forms, are denominated in bales of rice. The major sources of protein are legumes and fish; chicken and pork are expensive and consumed by commoners only during festivals. (Cattle and sheep are unknown in Yamato.)

The mountains of Yamato are rich in mineral wealth, including precious metals, high-quality iron, and gemstones. The most precious type of gemstone is called kami blood; they are extremely rare outside of Yamato and highly prized by arcanists.
